Social media marketing (SMM) is the use of social media to build a company’s brand, increase sales, and drive website traffic. When applied to a non-profit the same definition works, with slight differences. In the case of CreativeFuture, social media marketing was used to build their brand, increase membership and their activation for the cause, and drive traffic to the hub — the CreativeFuture website.

Additionally, SMM here “builds” not one but three things:

  • Yes the brand: CreativeFuture
  • Also the cause, the reason for the non-profit:  Mobilizing members to speak up about creativity’s cultural and economic value, the importance of copyright in protecting creativity, and the massive harm caused by the global theft of creative works.
  • And the leader: CEO Ruth Vitale because the greater her reputation, the more she can influence others.
